Free E-Signature App
You do not need to download a separate app to sign documents anymore. A web app that runs in your phone's browser does the same job, installs to your home screen in one tap if you want it there, and keeps your documents in sync between phone and laptop. Signers never need to install anything at all.
Free apps that are free until you need them
Many "free" e-signature apps cap you at a few documents, watermark the PDF, or lock the audit trail — the part that makes the signature defensible — behind a subscription. Others require every signer to install the app and create an account, which is where most signatures stall.
What the template covers
Runs in the browser, installs if you like
Use it in Safari or Chrome, or add it to your home screen to open it like any other app. Nothing for signers to install.
Sign and send from your phone
Upload a PDF or Word file, sign it yourself, or send it to others by text, email, WhatsApp or QR code.
Identity checks built in
Require a selfie with ID or Face ID / fingerprint confirmation for documents where identity matters.
Audit trail on every document
Each signed PDF ends with a certificate: who signed, when, from what device and IP, and the document's SHA-256 fingerprint.
Free does not mean less binding
The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, 15 U.S.C. § 7001, provides that a signature, contract or record may not be denied legal effect solely because it is in electronic form, and every state except New York has adopted the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act; New York reaches the same result through its Electronic Signatures and Records Act. Legal effect does not depend on what you pay for the tool. It depends on intent to sign, consent to do business electronically, and a record that can be retained and reproduced accurately — which is what the audit trail and sealed PDF provide.
A dog walker who quit paper waivers
A dog-walking business in Seattle had new clients sign a paper service agreement and liability waiver at the first visit, then photographed the pages. She now sends both by text before the meet-and-greet; clients sign on their phones and she starts the first walk with everything already on file.
What to check in any free e-signature app
- Is the audit trail included for free, or only on paid plans?
- Do signers need an account or an app download?
- Can you verify identity when a document needs it?
- Is the signed PDF watermarked?
- Can you export your signed documents if you leave?
Questions people ask about this
Is there a truly free e-signature app?
Yes. You can sign documents and send them for signature without paying, and signers never pay or install anything.
Do I need to download it from the App Store or Play Store?
No. It runs in your browser. You can optionally add it to your home screen.
Does it work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other modern browsers, and on desktop too.
Are signatures from a free app legally binding?
Yes. Under the ESIGN Act and UETA, the price of the tool is irrelevant; the record of intent and integrity is what counts.
Can I install it like a normal app?
Yes. From the browser you can add it to your home screen; it then opens full screen like any installed app, without going through an app store.
Is my data private?
Documents are visible only to you and the people you send them to. Signers see only the document they were asked to sign.
Can I sign my own documents too?
Yes. Upload any PDF or Word file, add your own signature, and download it signed with its certificate.
